Watery start to the New Year

The heavy rain experienced in all parts of the country immediately after Christmas was especially severe in Dorset where residents of Iford Bridge residential park were evacuated by Bournemouth Council twice in eight days. The first time was in the early hours of Christmas morning, due to rising waters, and again on the afternoon of 2 January. The council made arrangements for overnight accommodation for those who were unable to do so for themselves. Residents at the Beaulieu Garden Park were also advised to evacuate by East Dorset District Council. Heavy flooding was also predicted at Christchurch Harbour Side and Stour Park Homes.  Dorset Police advised residents not to return to these parks under any circumstances until they were told it was safe to do so.
