MP praises gardening project

MP praises gardening projectGlyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has praised a holiday park in his constituency for connecting urban people with the countryside and educating children about fruit and veg. He visited Gwernydd Hall Park, at New Mills, near Newtown, which has launched a gardening initiative to encourage children to learn more about the food they eat. The venture has been such a success that one of the children has persuaded a school in Small Heath, Birmingham to introduce a similar gardening project.

Geoff Plumridge, who manages the park with his wife Laura, has encouraged the children of holiday home owners to get involved by helping to plant fruit and vegetables. In return for the time they spend in the garden, the children receive credits, which qualify them to take produce later in the year.

.

Mr Davies said: ‘The garden is a terrific idea because it helps connect the people who visit the park with how things are grown.

‘It also teaches urban people what the countryside is like.’
