What hobbies and activities do you most look forward to in the winter?

Carrying the torch

Carrying the torchJenny Lacey, owner of a holiday home at Waterside Holiday Park, in Paignton, has just been named as winner of an Olympic Torch, which was used during the torch relay, and then afterwards in a charity fundraising relay between Park Holidays’ group of 25 parks. The torch was presented to Jenny after her name came out of the hat in a lucky draw among Park Holidays UK home owners.

The raffle of the torch brought to an end a year of sporting events at Park Holidays UK, including its own inter-park relay, which raised over £5000 for national charity The Children’s Trust. Jenny’s historic torch was officially handed over to her by Andy Bellerby, General Manager of Waterside Holiday Park.

Now retired, after a career as a Royal Air Force civil servant, Jenny and her partner Gordon have owned a holiday home at the park for the past five years.

Throughout the summer, the couple followed closely the amazing spectacle of the London Games, and managed to catch many of the events on television both at home and at Waterside.

Jenny enthused, ‘Although we weren’t at the park when the Olympic torch arrived, my daughter and her children were, and they said that there was a wonderful party atmosphere which everyone joined in. Now, we are really thrilled to discover that we have become the winners of the official torch, and my little granddaughter, who is a real Olympics fan, is over the moon!’
