New Model Review: The Hampton

The Hampton is the latest big hitting lodge from the Prestige & Homeseeker stable. Launched in September at The Lawns and Beaulieu shows, it proved to be a real draw…

new home

The Old English meaning of Hampton is ‘home settlement’, and one of oldest English settlements in continuous existence is Hampton Beach in Virginia, USA. For those unfamiliar with the area, Hampton Roads is one of the world’s largest natural harbours with miles of upmarket waterfront property and beaches. We think the Hampton lodge reflects that vibe as a coastal or harbourside apartment-style lodge, bringing it back to the UK where it would fit just as well on many parks.

Layout
The Hampton is built on a centre-lounge concept, with an open-plan living/dining area and kitchen. With bedroom suites at each end and a utility area to the rear, this is a layout that should work well. For Prestige & Homeseeker, this was tried and tested as a user-friendly layout with the Bowmoor centre-lounge lodge, which was well-received and well ahead of its time a few years back.

A central lounge not only affords potentially magnificent views, given the right lodge location, but an additional element of privacy is offered to the bedroom occupants at each end, which adds particular appeal for the rental market. The only downside is that you need the right plot – but then on a park with a good view, the Hampton really will do it justice!

new homeExternal features

This layout has been made completely current and contemporary with the Hampton’s architecturally inspired exterior, which is stunning. There’s a high pitch to the front that adds impact, externally, and lends a lofty feel within.

A dedicated front section stands forward slightly to house the two sets of tri-fold doors that make up a panel of six in total, opening the lodge up completely to the decking area on a sunny day.

At the front, on either side, are the bedroom windows with an inset door to allow whoever’s inside each to step out onto their own seating area if they fancy doing that. Criss-cross square windows span the width of this lodge across the top of the main window and door frames, adding character and emphasising the feeling of height.

Feature cladding to the central opening is in natural wood, with downlighters from an extended overhang at the top ensuring the Hampton has as much visual impact at night as it does in the daytime.
